Urban heat in the Nordic countries
This report explores how prepared the Nordic countries (here defined as Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark) are for more abundant heatwaves and higher summer temperatures. This desk research analysis of policy solutions to urban heat and projected heat related risks focuses on the Nordic countries in general, and Norway and Oslo, in particular.
The report introduces the risks associated with increased urban heat. It examines how research predicts climate change in the Nordic countries and how mitigation and adaptation to these climate risks are regulated. After a more specific description of the predicted climate risks in Norway, the report describes how Oslo municipality work with climate adaptation measures in general and give examples of policies mitigating the risks of urban heat. The report concludes with a reflection on the challenges and possibilities of the Nordic approach to climate change adaptation.
